How To Make Jewish Candles

Preparation
Lay down a protective mat in the workspace and have warm soapy water ready to clean up any spilled wax. Gather the necessary materials-Kosher-certified wax, wicks, and specialized dyes-along with tools such as a double boiler and molds.

Melting the Wax
Cut the wax into small pieces and place them in the inner pot of a double boiler. Melt the wax slowly using indirect heat (heating over water) to avoid the hazards associated with direct contact between the wax and an open flame.

Shaping and Molding
Secure the wick in the center of a mold that meets Jewish religious standards. Slowly pour in the melted wax and allow it to sit undisturbed for at least 24 hours to cool and set completely. Once set, remove the candle from the mold and trim the excess wick.
