Candle Body Materials
The primary ingredient is paraffin wax-a mixture of higher alkanes derived from petroleum, containing approximately 85% carbon and 14% hydrogen. White oil and stearic acid are added as auxiliary agents to adjust the wax's softness, while fragrances and polyethylene are sometimes incorporated as well.
Traditionally, Jewish candles were largely made from animal fats; early lighting used for Hanukkah observances also utilized olive oil as fuel.

Materials for Associated Candle Holders
The specialized candle holders used with Jewish candles (such as the Hanukkah menorah) are commonly crafted from materials like clay, ceramics, stone, and copper. Families select materials based on their financial means, and exquisitely crafted holders often serve as symbols of both wealth and faith. Modern, mass-produced religious candle holders are typically manufactured using alloy die-casting techniques, with some designs featuring a gold base accented by blue decorative elements.
