Braid Construction, Wax & Packing

A Havdalah candle is judged on two things at once: whether the braid holds its shape in the hand, and whether the combined flame is broad and bright enough for the blessing. Both come from construction, not surface decoration.

The standard build is a multi-strand braid around 100% cotton wicks, finished in paraffin, filtered beeswax or a blend. Braid diameter, length, wick count and packing are fixed per order and kept on file so reorders repeat the approved sample.

Braid in the hand

The braid has to stand upright through the blessing. Diameter and strand count are matched to the ceremony format you sell into, from family table to synagogue.

Flame for the blessing

The blessing is said over a combined flame, so the wicks are specified with the braid rather than added afterwards. Wick count and spacing are part of the construction.

Burn length

Burn time follows braid diameter and length. Tell us how long the candle has to stay lit and the braid is sized to that figure.

Custom Havdalah Candles for Your Brand

A Havdalah candle is usually sold inside a set, so the braid and the box are designed together. We develop braid profile, wax color and packaging as one program, and can pack the candle alongside a plate, spice box or besom when the set is specified.

Strand forming

Wax strands are cast and paired with cotton wicks before plaiting, so the wicks stay centered along the whole braid.

STEP 02

Plaiting & dipping

Strands are braided to the approved tightness and dipped to build the final body and finish.

STEP 03

Hand-held burn test

Samples are burned upright in hand-held conditions to check flame width, drip and burn length, not only in a holder.

Wrapping & set packing

Braids are wrapped, boxed and, where required, packed with the other components of the Havdalah set.

1. What makes a candle suitable for Havdalah?

The blessing is made over a combined flame, so the candle is braided from several strands with a wick in each strand. A single-wick taper does not give the broad flame the ceremony calls for.

2. Do you make both paraffin and beeswax braids?

Yes. The braid geometry is the same on both lines; paraffin gives a bright, even flame, while filtered beeswax adds the natural honey note and a warmer flame color.

3. What braid sizes can you supply?

Compact household braids through oversized presentation pieces. Each size is sampled separately, so send the diameter, length and intended use and we confirm what fits.

4. How long does the candle burn?

Burn time depends on braid diameter and length. Tell us how long the candle must stay lit and the braid is sized to that requirement, then verified in a hand-held burn test.

5. Can the braid be packed as a Havdalah set?

Yes. The candle can be packed with a plate, spice box or besom to your set specification. Confirm the exact contents and packaging before the order is placed.

6. Can we customize color and packaging?

Wax color, braid finish, gift box, sleeve and insert card are all produced in-house. Pantone matching is done in the wax, not only on the box.

7. What are the minimum order and lead times?

Orders start from 2,000 pcs per program, production takes about 30 days after deposit, and shipments between August and October need about 20 extra days.
